It started with the huge protests against the assault on labor unions in Wisconsin by the newly elected Governor Walker. Now, every weekday between noon and 1pm workers and community members come out to sing in the Rotunda of the state capital. Apparently the acoustics are fabulous. No microphones needed. They sing “We Shall Overcome”, “This Land Is Your Land”, etc. As with all protests, new words appropriate to the situation are added. There is a video circulating. If you Google search, you will find it. Lovely, strong singing, another example of the importance of music to the ongoing struggle for human rights and dignity.
