The Boughs They Bend To Me
sung by Sandi Morey
A collection of seven Scots ballads and five English folk songs.
Come on a journey with me to another time and place. Come to the great hall of the castle where the fire draws travelers to its warmth, and tellers of tales and singers of songs come to please the gentry. — Sandi Morey
Includes:
- Green Broom
- Originally Scots in origin, this song is one of many in which the plants symbolize an aspect of human experience. In this case, “broom” is a metaphor alluding to fertility and to amorous encounters. I learned this many years ago from the singing of Burl Ives. Included with permission.
- I Will Give My Love an Apple
- The Bitter Withy
- Lovely Joan
- Robin Hood and the Bold Peddlar
- Floating Down the Stream
Also…
- Sir Patrick Spense
- Hugh the Graehme
- Gypsy Laddie
- The Great Silkie of Shule Skerry
- Eppie Morey
- The Twa Sisters
