In February of 2011, Sandi Morey was recognized as a Local Hero by the Oakland City Council. The commendation reads:
2011 District 4 LOCAL HERO AWARD: Sandi Morey for her thirty-five years of opening her home to neighbors for weekly sing-alongs — including lessons on history and traditional global folk music — spreading joy, building community and expanding her neighbor’s world view.
